Coach Strauss has been running ever since he can remember. It’s who he is.
He caught the running bug after he set the mile record in 6th grade at his elementary school. After that experience, he joined the local track team, the Orem Track Club (OTC). It was there he became the age group State, Regional and National Champion. Coach Strauss attended and competed at Timpview High School where he was 6-time State Champion in Cross Country and Track (800, 1600 and 3200M). After high school, he competed at Utah Valley University where he led the team, as well as the Cross Country and Track programs, to their 1st National Championship appearances. From UVU, he was recruited and competed at the University of Utah where he continued to compete at the NCAA and earned a degree in Exercise and Sport Science.
After earning All-American status at both UVU and the University of Utah, coach Strauss along with his wife focused on their family raising their three children.
He started coaching as an assistant coach at Timpview for a short time, after which he continued to coach athletes individually. In 2013 he became the head coach at Mountain View High School where he has soared athletes to the 4A Cross Country State runner-up team for two consecutive years, earning the UHSAA 2016 Girls Cross Country Coach of the year award. In Track & Field, he has worked with six State Champions as well as eight 1st and 2nd runner ups.
